Cutline Plus

In the beginning, Chris Pearson created the Cutline Theme for WordPress, and it was good. So good that it became one of the most popular WordPress themes ever. And lo, Cutline came to be owned by Splashpress Media, and it was still good. Pearson went on to create other themes, including the Thesis Theme framework. And that was good.
But Thesis users found that they had to say goodbye to their beloved Cutline. And that was not good.
Enter Cutline Plus.
With the gracious blessing of Ia Lucero, head of design for Splashpress Media, I have ported the Cutline theme to the Thesis framework. As you can see by viewing the demo site, the classic styling of Cutline is seamlessly combined with the flexibility and functionality of Thesis. Where once you had to install different versions of the original theme in order to use different layouts, now one, two, or three-column layouts are now just a click away! Other Thesis elements can be combined with the Cutline style as you desire.
And best of all – it’s free! If you decide, though, that you’d like to make a small donation as a ‘thank you,’ just click on the PayPal link below. It would make Mrs. ThesisLab very happy.
Instructions for applying the Cutline Plus style to Thesis are below. It is recommended that you start with Thesis options set to their default.
- Download the
Cutline_Plus.zippackage to your local computer. Unzip the package to reveal thecustomfolder and the two option panel instruction screenshots. - On your server, rename your default Thesis
customfolder tocustom_old. - Upload your new
customfolder to thethesis_16folder on your server, right alongside thecustom_oldfolder. Make sure yourlayout.csspermissions are set to 666, and yourcachefolder permissions set to 775. - To start with the default three-column Cutline Plus look (recommended), use the default Thesis Options
and Thesis Design Options settings marked by the red arrows in the screenshots you downloaded. Save your settings in both options panel pages. - Default font and color styles are determined by rules in
custom.css. If you wish to use the in-dash font/color controls in Design Options, comment out or delete the relevantcustom.cssrules as needed. - Apply widgets as desired.
- You are encouraged to replace the default banner images with your own. There are three folders inside of
custom/imagesfor banners, one for each number of columns you may choose to use in Cutline Plus. The dimensions (in particular, the widths) of the images in each folder: headers_1col: 502 x 140 pxheaders_2col: 747 x 140 pxheaders_3col: 970 x 140 px- In
custom_functions.phpunderROTATING HEADER IMAGES, Cutline Plus is set by default to use banner images for a three-column layout; that is, to pull banner images from theheaders_3colfolder.
If you opt for a two or one-column layout, edit the header folder name in the rotating banner image function to either headers_2col or headers_1col, depending on your preference.
As the original Cutline is governed by the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 (US) license, this post is likewise subject to those terms. This means you are free to share and adapt the work, but the attribution to Splashpress Media and Chris Pearson must remain in the footer. (There is no requirement for attribution to ThesisLab.) Like the original theme, Cutline Plus is licensed for personal and noncommercial use.
I hope you enjoy Cutline Plus. If you have questions or comments on the style, please leave them on this post. More good things are coming; I invite you to follow ThesisLab on Twitter for all updates!
